Happy Birthday, Weird Al!

Today, musician, satirist, songwriter and accordion player Alfred "Weird Al" Yankovic turns 49. Back in the heyday of music videos (the wondrous decade of the 1980's) Yankovic's parodies of songs and music videos were often better than the originals. In honor of his birthday, we've opened the video archives here at the museum and present Comparative Musicology "Weird Al" Style.

From 1982 we have "I Love Rock and Roll" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. This video features a bonus intro by cute as a button original MTV VJ Martha Quinn.

Here's Al's paean to his favorite ice cream "I Love Rocky Road" .

One hit wonder Toni Basil had a 1982 smash hit with Mickey.

Al turned it into a tribute to I Love Lucy with Ricky.

From 1983 (Our Love's in) Jeopardy by the Greg Kihn Band.

"Weird Al's" version - I Lost on Jeopardy featuring the game show's original host Art Fleming, and announcer Don Pardo.
